The soundtrack to Quentin Tarantino’s new film The Hateful Eight will be released on vinyl through Jack White’s Third Man Records, it has been confirmed.

Ennio Morricone has provided the score to the film, Tarantino’s first since the Oscar-nominated Django Unchained, while The White Stripes’ ‘Apple Blossom’ also features on the tracklist. Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Kurt Russell and Michael Madsen have also contributed music.

Morricone is best known for his work on spaghetti westerns such as Once Upon a Time in the West and The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. He has not scored a western for over forty years.

Decca Records will release Morricone’s score on CD, vinyl, and as a digital download, while Third Man Records is putting out an exclusive vinyl edition of the soundtrack. As with all Third Man releases, it comes complete with a raft of extras, incuding a tri-fold reversible jacket with soft touch finish, a 60″x12″ poster, a 36″x12″ poster, and 12-page booklet insert with stills from the film.

Set in Wyoming shortly after the Civil War, The Hateful Eight revolves around eight strangers seeking shelter at a stagecoach passover called Minnie’s Haberdashery during a blizzard.

Samuel L Jackson stars as a notorious bounty hunter called Major Marquis Warren, while Kurt Russell plays ‘The Hangman’, a bounty hunter known for hanging the fugitives he captures. Jennifer Jason Leigh co-stars as Daisy Domergue, a fugitive wanted dead or alive for murder, who has been captured by Russell’s character. The film’s cast also includes Walton Goggins, Demián Bichir, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen and Bruce Dern.

After the film’s script leaked in January 2014, Tarantino announced that he intended to publish The Hateful Eight as a novel instead. However, following a successful live reading of the leaked script at an event in Los Angeles, Tarantino announced that he would make the film after all, albeit with a rewritten ending.

The Hateful Eight opens in US cinemas on December 25 before being released in the UK on January 8.
