Coldplay have announced that they will perform during the NFL Super Bowl halftime show next year.
The halftime show is something of a cultural event in the US, with Katy Perry, Beyonce, Bruno Mars and Madonna performing in recent years.
Chris Martin and co will perform at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California (home to San Francisco 49ers) on February 7.
The news comes as Coldplay prepare to release new album ‘A Head Full Of Dreams’ on Friday (December 4).
Recently Chris Martin explained that ‘A Head Full Of Dreams’ marries “all the music that we love, from Drake to Oasis.”
Speaking about the new record, Martin told Rolling Stone: “We wanted to marry all the music that we love, from Drake to Oasis. There was a feeling that we don’t have anything to lose. We’re very comfortable now with the fact that we’re not for everybody.”
He also described the record as a “hippie album”. “It’s about love and acceptance and embracing what happens to you,” he explained. “All of our records were a journey to get to this one.”
As previously reported, Gwyneth Paltrow provides backing vocals on the track ‘Everglow’, Noel Gallagher plays guitar on ‘Up&Up’ and Beyoncé guests on ‘Hymn For The Weekend’ and ‘Colour Spectrum’.
